Facts On Paper

Facts on Paper

Paper! used for writing, drawing, or printing on, or as wrapping material.

For todays blog post I thought I would nut out some of the most interesting facts about  paper. After all it is that amazing material that I use every day to create my papercraft of greeting card making.

Paper is manufactured in thin sheets from the pulp of wood or other fibrous substances.

Paper was first invented in ancient China around 105AD, the tecnology of paper making did not reach Western Europe for another 900yrs and a further 450yrs before it reached England.

The word paper is derived from papyrus, Acient Greek for the Cyperus papyrus plant.

Papyrus is plants pressed and dried, while paper is made from fibers whose properties have been changed by maceration or disintergration.

Paper consists of pulp, filler, water and chemicals.  The ingredients are combined according to the unique recipe for each particular paper.

Paper is almost 200 yrs old. That is almost as old as Christianty.

Not all paper is made from wood, some are made from scraps of cloth pieces, banknotes are made from cotton fibre.
